Online B Reflection

Technology is important in our lives because it is everywhere. Almost everything we do now has something to do with technology. In the last 5 years technology has changed due to upgrades in Windows, Google, and many other things. In the next 5 years technology will become very advanced and easier to use. I believe we will find out how to do all kinds of new things easier that will make our lives more productive and waste less time. The kind of technology that I use for school work is usually a computer or an ipod to research or to use for big papers and of course computer class. For personal use I use computers, ipods, and cell phones to make my life easier in many different ways. Some of the tools I learned how to use were Google Docs, Excel, and Career Exploration. These tools are the tools i will use now and later in the future. Google Docs is probably the most practical for future learning because it helps us do work from different places and know it's safe. One tool I think that I will never use again is Screencasting because I don't find it helpful. Google Docs is the tool I like the most to create. My least favorite tool to create is a screencast because, again, I don't find this helpful.

Reflection

I liked assessing my skills and interest in career cruising. even though it wasnt the most exciting thing to do. now i have a better idea in the the path i want and need to take to be successful in life.

Windows Live vs. Google Docs

I personally think that Google Docs is a easier program to use because everything is right in front of you for you to use. Windows live is similar but a little less user friendly. It might be that I am just used to Google Docs more than Windows Live

Screencast Comparison

The two screencasting websites I used were Screencast-o-matic, and screencast.com. Personally I enjoyed using Screencast-o-matic more because it is easy to use and it is a little more user-friendly. I also liked it more because it was very fast tot use and you could find things very easily compared to the other site.

Screencast

A screen cast is a new way of telling somebody how to do a certain task. Instead of just telling them what to do, it allows whoever is being taught to see and hear exactly how to do something. the actual definition of a screencast is "A digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration."

Tech. Article

The technology article that I read is about how Google is trying to improve it search or make it more personal. They say that they are trying to make it think more like a person. Basically it reviews your history of searches and picks the top results that would be suitable for your search needs. This will make your searches faster and easier to use the Google Search tool.

Career Paths

I had a tie for my top career pathway. The top two were "Finance", and "Law, Public Safety, Correction and Security". I want to lean more towards the Public Safety choice. I would like to be active everyday and be outside instead of being in an office for 8 hours of the day. I would enjoy being a Police Officer, Firefighter, or even a Paramedic. If I did go into the field of Finance then some of the jobs I would consider would be an Accountant, Bank Manager, and a Credit Analyst. I think it would be a fun and promising career on both pathways.

Technology Article

The article I read was about how bosses and colleges are now demanding you Facebook passwords. This act violates the first amendment and violates Facebook's terms of services. This is a violation of privacy for everyone. Many people are now actually giving their passwords out which is not good. people are now starting to rebel against this and starting to say no to their bosses and colleges.

Teddy Roosevelt and the River of doubt

Theodore Roosevelt, the youngest and 26th president of the United States, had just come off a terrible election in 1913.  The former president was humiliated and had to get away.  He was invited to Buenas Aires, Argentina by his son Hermit who lived in South America.  This was the perfect escape for the outdoorsman.  Him and his son decided to go on an expedition through the wildest part of the Amazon in
Brazil.  They went to find a supposively "unkown river".  Candido Rondon, Brazil's most famous explorer would join Teddy and his group of explorers.  Little did Teddy know that this trip would nearly end his life when his leg was cut and infected on a rock.  him and his crew had barely survived as they explored the 1,000 Amazon Tributary.  One of the most amazing parts about this was that Teddy was in his 50s at the time.

There are many differences between the new and old privacy terms for Gooogle.  The first one is that Google can now access your personal emails for search purposes. The second is that you can't dissagree to the terms of google on the new privacy terms. The third is that they will improve in the area of copyright and trying to prevent it.

The article on the Google privacy issue on CNN.com is all about google explaining the reasoning behind the privacy settings. many people say it is a bad thing to do what Gooogle is doing but Google disagrees and they tell why in this article.

Copyright Infringement

Apple 'sued by authors' for $1.8m in copyright infringement case.
A group of Chinese authors has sued Apple for 11.9 million yuan ($1.84 million) in compensation for allegedly providing copyright-infringing books for download through its online store.  The group behind the lawsuit has been lobbying Apple for months to remove copyright-infringing books from its App Store.  The group of nine authors, under the mantle of the China Written Works Copyright Society (CWWCS), sued Apple in Beijing's No. 2 Intermediate People's Court for copyright infringement of 37 works.  This law suit is  very recent and is still going on now.

Internet Safety

  • Internet safety is the ability to use the internet in a mature and responsible way, and to turn away from any harmful things on the web.
  • The three most important things about being safe online is to not give out any personal information (like your adress or a phone number), to stay away from any virus causing sites, and to not give your password  to anyone (even your friends).
  • From Deputy Krupp's speech I learned that there are a lot of laws surrounding the internet usage.
  • I can improve in internet safety by not giving my password to anybody, even my friends.

Google Reader or Blogline??

The two sites, Google Reader and Blogline are very similar in appearence and user friendliness.  However, I personally like google reader more than blogline because it is just a little easier to use than Blogline.  The appearence is better and the the whole setup is veryb user friendly.  Everything is easy to use and read thanks to the setup of Google Reader.  Overall I believe Google Reader is just a little better than Blogline.
